50 Cent, before he was selling tickets all over the place

Before 50 Cent was one of the biggest stars in the music business he had to make his way to the top. Like the name of the album, 50 Cent was intent on getting rich or die trying. He was born July 6, 1975, as Curtis James Jackson III to a single mother who was 15 and a drug dealer at the time 50 was born. 50 Cent was born and raised in South Jamaica, Queens. After his mother was murdered he went to live with his grandparents. 50 has said he started selling crack when he was 12 years old, also the height of the inner-city crack epidemic. When he first arrived in the mainstream, 50 Cent garnered attention due to the fact that he was shot nine times. The first 50 Cent Album was Power of the Dollar, which was unreleased. In 2002 50 Cent released the compilation album Guess Who’s Back? on the independent label Full Clip Records. Working on the album were DJ Clark Kent, Sha Money XL, Red Spyda and Terence Dudley. Guess Who’s Back? would go on to peak at #28 on the Billboard 200, but more importantly caught the attention of Eminem, who was instrumental in 50 Cent signing with Interscope Records.

Eminem, along with one of the godfathers of rap as well as Eminem’s mentor Dr. Dre, released Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003. With hit singles like In Da Club, 21 Questions, and “If I Can’t” Get Rich or Die Trying would be one of the biggest commercial hits of the decade.
